Is your house broke? Tesco will send someone to fix it
Tesco, ultimately, would like to take over the entire world. They can help you with your shopping, car-insurance, banking, pharmaceutical drugs, electrical good, insurance... and now the are moving into home repairs and selling you the services of handymen who can come 'round and sort your plumbing out or kill rats with gigantic guns.
They're trialling this new range of services - under the banner of Tesco Home Services - at their store in Swindon, Wiltshire.
The supermarket is teaming up with local tradesmen who'll do the work, but only after they've passed an "accreditation" process. Customers ring a central number and the work is divvied up with Tesco taking a cut of the fees. Tesco's roster of tradesmen will cover building, glazing, locks, heating, roofing, drainage and even IT support.
Rob Brown, home services director, told The Sun: "We are giving people in Swindon the confidence that what they will receive will be good value and reliable."
Some will argue that this is a retail giant monopolising the market, while others will no doubt see this as a way of getting more work in.
