IKEA throws light on the biggest savings

19 November 2008

So you'll change your 60W lightbulbs for fancy energy saving bulbs in your own sweet time, will you? More fool you. They use less electric, they last several times longer and can save you a small fortune. Fact, my friend. Fact.

In energy tests conducted by Which? the 20 watt Ikea Sparsam stick was declared the best energy saving bulb on the market. The bulbs were switched on for a total of 8,000 hours, the equivalent of about eight years of use. The conclusion was that even if they do cost a little more, replacing just four normal bulbs in your home could save you up to £28 per year. An average house may have 20 bulbs in it, so depending on usage, that's a lot of coin.

And in a bid to outshine all others with their green luminosity, Ikea was also found to be the only major store offering to recycle both energy saving bulbs and batteries. God bless you Ikea - you still don't have that bracket in stock I need to fix the drawer on my desk, but you are trying to save the planet.
