Iceland recall lamb mince in salmonella scare

24 January 2012

lamb mince Presumably one of the reasons that mum goes to Iceland is so that she doesn’t feed her kids salmonella-infected lamb mince. Sadly that might be a distinct possibility at the moment and the frozen food supermarket giant has issued a recall on some of the aforementioned mince following a salmonella scare.

The product being recalled is Iceland Fozen Lamb Mince (454g) with a best before date of 11th October 2012.

If you’ve got some in your freezer, don’t eat it. Instead, return it to an Iceland store for a full refund. If you’ve JUST eaten some, maybe you should make yourself vomit. Please note, that is OUR advice and not a doctor’s or Iceland’s.

DO IT.

If you "shop" at Iceland, you deseve all you get. Aisles full of benefit scum including lazy foreigners and single mothers. In fact, that's why their slogan is "that's why mum's gone to Iceland". Pity it misses out the next bit which should say "...after she's gone to get fags and cheap cider". Scum.
  • Give j.
Seriously, who in their right mind would feed their child the world of beige on offer at Iceland? Surely that would amount to child cruelty?
  • zeddy
Fuck sake! Who eats the mince raw?! Cook as normal and guess what? That's right, the salmonella will be killed off during the cooking process. Never mind, buy elsewhere to ensure it only contains E. coli o157.
  • Jono
What unpleasant people feel free to put ignorant comments such as aisle's full of benefit scum.......glad I don't live near anyone that unpleasant
  • The B.
@Zeddy, yes the salmonella dies but the toxins it created from breaking down the meat are still there, they'll kill you too.
  • Jason K.
    Who buys mince from Iceland?!?
  • Dick
Your street cred will have been killed anyway. Do people still say street cred? Or is it just me?
  • Shaniaa

"Peeple liek you are waht have turned ‘great britain’ into what it is today!" Maybe you should spend the rest of your time at your local college.

this is disgusting, . . .i keep seeing product recalls in my local iceland which is why i stopped shopping there, i've never seen another shop recall so much products, i hope they get bought out by a better shop,
  • ex e.
i have never worked for a more awful company!
  • sharron k.
funny been posted by ex empolyye, where you sacked, funny not that many recalls, get ur facts rigth, most of them are, wrong weigths, fuuny hows major supermarkets place adverts in papers,oh and another thing you did work for the company you pratt
  • Shaniaa
Adam meybe you shuld mind your own business, I have 2 young kids to look after i cant just go college all day like some people do!
  • ex e.
i wasn't sacked, i was offered a better job so took it! i don't understand the majority of the rest of what you have posted due to the spelling :/
  • zeddy
@The real bob: Most salmonella spp are not toxin forming and given that the mince will be refrigerated (<5oC) its growth will be retarded. If your mince is slow cooked at temps over 100oc then even many toxins will be killed as well.
  • The B.
@Zeddy - fair does but can you see a company like Iceland risking it? If you were looking for a demographic just waiting for the chance to use a no win no fee litigation companies the Iceland customer base would fit the spot almost perfectly.
  • rainbow
Theres nothing wrong with shopping at Iceland, all shops have re-calls time to time, I think it is shocking some of the comments on here regarding scum, single mothers etc. Funny how I often see respectable young, middle aged and old people shopping in Iceland. Value for money
  • Mink G.
that's why I go to Farmfoods.
  • kaylee
lol - so many haters on here. yes, i shop at iceland but i save enough money to have a nice holiday each year ... waste your money at waitrose if you want. maybe you lots should try living on benefits and see it isn't the easy ride you think it is. bringing up kids is a much more important job that most of the ones you lot do and the governement should be paying us more for stopping people dying off. go back to the daily mail rather than writing ignarant comments on here.
  • Grumpy
Shopping at Iceland is as good as looting in my book. They should all be strung up.
  • James
Perhaps you should all consider this - do any of the other big supermarkets provide convenience to the old folk who don't want to travel out of town to the large tescos or asda? Do they want actual customer service or an anonymous Employee #105259? More so - you say you worry about the number of product recalls which Iceland action. More importantly - where are the ones from Tesco, Asda etc.? That's right, they hide when they make mistakes so their image is presevered. At least Iceland have the guts to admit something is wrong and protect you before you get sick. If you READ the product recall posted on their door, you would understand that the article above is a load of salmonella in itself. Anyone who really speaks like this about a business that has survived the recession, and still work to provide great service should carry on shopping at Tesco. You're just another anonymous transaction in their bank statement.

Love the comments, even better than the article! Very funny, especially the reactions to some of the mad up ones. Keep 'em coming!
  • Escherichia C.
    Oh fuck the "e" key!
  • Escherichia C.
    Oh fuck that "e" key!
  • Andy C.
I work for Iceland and we don't have many recalls, The people that shop with us are decent middle aged people.
  • Lana
@Chewbacca- Products get recalled lots of times in all different kind of stores, whether it be Iceland, Asda, or Sainsburys etc. Its very rude that you say Icelands aisles are full of benefit scum including lazy foreigners and single mothers. I'm a single mother. I earn good wages, yet I have an Iceland just around the corner from my home and frequently do my shopping in there. I have never had a single problem with the store and its products, and the staff are the loveliest around. If you have such a problem with it, why are you wasting your time posting nasty comments about the store and its customers?
  • David
Not sure if it's off-topic but I am tired of people complaining about people claiming benefits. If they are there to be claimed and you can legally claim them then you'd have to be a fool not to claim them. The issue is with the Government paying them. That's who's doing the wrong thing, not the claimants.
  • Mike H.
To be frank, if you buy so called fresh meat from Iceland, 1. You are a cheapskate mother fucker. (And I bet you are all like, "we must save our local shops" then rather than got he butchers, go iceland to get your meat, twat) 2. You are a spastic 3. You deserve to be raped by a gorilla 4. You deserve to die of food poisoning
  • Fran
Would never buy meat from there anyway (far too fussy about the cuts etc) nor any of the ready meals or whatever but it's alright for the occasional bits of branded stuff (heinz, youngs etc) and stuff like squash. Not saying it'd ever do my full shop in there but it's worth getting a few discounted bits, specially when, like me, you're a student. This comments are so funny by the way, had a good laugh at them :)
  • adam
Shaniaa i do not go to college i work full time.
  • adam
The food is cheaper for a reason.
  • pauski
They can't even spell in their recall title. Numpty's.

@kaylee (lol, stereotypical name or what?!): "bringing up kids is a much more important job that most of the ones you lot do and the governement should be paying us more for stopping people dying off." ^So many lols I need to break it down: 1. "bringing up kids is a much more important job". It's not a job. Jesus christ. 2 "the governement should be paying us more ". This is your problem. Scum like you think you're somehow doing the rest of us a favour by bringing more feral offspring into our country. The government should be STERILISING you, not paying you. 3." stopping people dying off". Right, so somehow, you popping more barely human effluent from your sopping wizards sleeve somehow prevents people dying? Let's think about that for a second. You're trying to suggest that somehow, someone dying will miraculously be cured from whatever they are dying from, simply by the virtue of you popping another brat out? Wow, just wow. Boys and girls - in summary, the likes of Kaylee not only think they're doing a "job" by being subhuman benefit scrounging scum, but in fact thinkt they should be paid more for doing it. Mandatory sterilisation HAS to be the way forward, those who do not contribute should not be permitted to reproduce. Kaylee=scum. That is all.

Jesus Chewie! - you sound angrier than that time I waxed your knob.

  • Chewbacca
@ adam You're bang on mate, I also LOVE paying for job-dodging scum to go on holiday. Any money they go to somewhere in Spain that sells "English" breakfasts... nice.

Hi, please can all Jedi who have escaped report back to the station. It's just a standard security check, nobody is trying to kill anyone. Thanks.
  • Adnan
Guv from HUKD said he had to stop shopping in there because some of the food was making him impotent, he said he still hasnt recovered. Elton Chong says he shops their because they have the cheapest pork, and he's saving up for a lada, will take a few years though. DGA cant shop in their because they dont have wheelchair access. so a mixed bag really
  • Chewbacca
@ Adnan Could you please learn the difference between "their" and "there"? Using the wrong word just makes you look like a "spastic" (thanks Mike Hock!) .
  • darth v.
Chewbacca, I hope you aren't protecting the rebels.

Can't believe some of the arrogant idiotic people that are commenting on here. Obviously all you people who are commenting slagging off the meat quality have never tasted or purchased any meat from a store because it's at a better quality than stores such as Sainsbury's. Iceland have won ten's of awards over the years for the quality of there food and meat. And they are one of the very few supermarkets that put a ban on additives and articficial flavours in own brand products, which obviously shows Iceland care and look after there customers. But if you'd rather shop at Waitrose and get the same quality products for 3x the price, you do that! And regarding the comments saying the customers are "benefit scum, foreigners and single Mum's". Name me a shop that doesn't have these types of people in shopping?
  • zeddy
@The real bob: I know what you mean, people should realise however that raw meat in general will contain pathogenic bacteria. The key to preventing the wild shites, is to cook your food thoroughly and wash your hands after handling the raw meat. The Iceland shoppers may have some difficulty with this.
  • Escherichia C.
    > The Iceland shoppers may have some difficulty with this. What, handling raw meat or washing their hands? Either way, I want it on the record I always wash my hands after handing my raw meat.
  • kaylee
lol @ chewbacca. i read that this country needs more kids to pay for *your* pension when your old. you might laugh at me now but in 40 years you will be dependent on my kids. think about it. as for being a mum not a job ... they say a womens work is never done ... its a 24/7 job ... not an easy shift flipping burgers or whatever you do. lol. i'm ignoring the rest of your hating because you have some jeallasy issues. @adam - my holiday is well earnt and no i dont go to spain ... i go to greece and help there economy ... i'm doing my bit to help the money crisis unlike you.
  • Chewbacca
@ kaylee I'm not "jeallas" of you, pimarily beacause you're an utter fucking retard. Are you not utterly embarassed or ashamed at your utter inability to spell even the most basic of words? You're so fucking stupid that even although someone else was chastised for not knowing the difference between "their" and "there" on THIS VERY PAGE, you still plough on regardless. I feel sorry for your children. With a retarded scumball for a mother like you, they would be better off in care.
  • mike
@Chewbacca you're clearly very disturbed. I assume you're getting kicks from slating Iceland and being horrible to people commenting on this. If anything, its very sad of you. Surely you have got something far more valuable to do with your time.
  • zeddy
@ E. coli: stop making your meat raw and you'll need to wash it less often. Try some Dairy Lea instead.
  • sharronk
i work in a large food company, and i can tell you its not just iceland that has scum customers, they are everywhere even m&s,i found out that the company that do xmas turkey crowns for iceland, also do m&s.only diff is the lable and price, why call people scum when every one is the same, think i will go veggie
  • Adam
my holiday is well earnt and no i dont go to spain … i go to greece and help there economy … i’m doing my bit to help the money crisis unlike you. I work over 60 hrs a week and i pay my taxes,I do not receive any state benefits and if more people actually got of their back sides and found a job like the rest of us and stopped claiming state handouts maybe are economy would be better of.
  • Daniel.P
Iceland do have SOME quality products on sale, birds eye, youngs, etc i will never forget once, went in to buy bacon......for some reason the meat had turned a greenish colour, very off putting indeed.
  • Daniel.P
P.s the spelling in some of these comments is absolutely appalling! you people don't even have to own a dictionary, use spell check if you must, but please! make life a little easier on everyone else by spelling correctly!
  • dtoveyisacunt

You have spelt 'primarily','because' and 'embarrassed' incorrectly. Just a heads up. Don't beat yourself up about it, it doesn't matter too much, You still have something to offer society
  • kaylee
thanks adnan for pointing that out. i also read adams post and noticed that he said 'got of their back sides' rather than 'got off their back sides' and 'are economy would be better of' rather than 'our economy would be better off'. seems adam and chewbacca have as much problems with spelling as i do! lol. maybe they're (see I got it right) as retarded as me. haha. people in grass houses shouldnt throw stones.
  • Fran
sharronk - A lot of companies that produce food, primarily for super markets, produce the same lines for many different companies. There IS a difference in the ingredients, grade of meat etc that is used. Just do some research on it.
  • Trolly T.
    Trolls trolling trolls troll trolls.
  • Fran
Also, thanks to Kaylee, Chewbacca and Adnan. Your comments made me laugh.
  • The B.
@Daniel P Thank goodness you're only criticising spelling and not grammar, otherwise you'd look like a right fucking idiot.
  • The B.
"people in grass houses shouldnt throw stones." - kaylee Why not? Would it affect the grass in some way?
  • Fran
“people in grass houses shouldnt throw stones.” – kaylee Why not? Would it affect the grass in some way? I'm sure that lighting matches or a strong wind would cause more damage.. I mean, look at the three little pigs!
  • Nice l.
I work in Iceland and I regularly spunk into the meat before I shelf it up! Gives it more taste yeah.
  • The B.
Fran, I think you may have cracked it. The grass dries out then people start chucking stones about, 2 of the stones are flint and collide near the dry grass causing a spark which burns down the grass house. Of course it is also feasible that it was caused by a lack of viable literacy.
  • shazk
change the fucking record about iceland, don't fucking shop in it,plenty of other shite shops to shop, nice land,ur dicks that small, sure you can get it up,don't think i will be shopping in your iceland, and i will be sending this to your head office,i know who u are
