£300m Aldi investment in UK
The UK wing of Aldi has announced that they're going to invest a whopping £300 million into their stores, after notching up a 12% increase in sales, which raked in a massive £7.7 billion in 2015.
There's currently 785 Aldi stores in the UK and Ireland, and there's going to be 70 more in 2017, as they aim to reach 1,000 supermarkets in the UK by 2022.
So what can customers expect once the investment has been made?
Matthew Barnes, CEO of Aldi UK and Ireland says: "We've completed our largest-ever listening exercise, involving over 50,000 shoppers across our stores."
"We've listened and we're evolving our new format for new and existing stores to deliver [what our customers want]".
"Our promotion of British-sourced products and our relationships with British suppliers demonstrate our pride in Britain and our commitment to providing the very best quality British food."
"At the same time, we continue to deliver on our promise that whenever you shop at Aldi, you are paying the lowest prices in grocery."
So, you'll be seeing fresh produce, food-on-the-go, and improved booze aisles. They'll get something of a face-lift inside too, you suspect. The competition in the supermarket sector has been warned.
