Deathwatch: RIP JJB

retail deathwatch JJB Sports is no more. We knew this was coming and it’s been inevitable for a while, but the bad news is that much LESS of the company has been sold off (and fewer jobs saved) than was originally predicted.

As expected, Sports Direct has cherry-picked the best bits of JJB, but that amounts to just 20 stores, with 550 jobs being saved. Sadly, the remaining 133 stores will close today, with the loss of approximately 2,200 jobs.

The stores that have been sold to Sports Direct are in Airdrie, Antrim, Brighton, Chorley, Cumbernauld, Dorchester, Dover, Elgin, Glasgow Silverburn, Leamington Spa, Leeds, Lisburn, Liverpool, Llandudno, Londonderry, Oldbury, Rhyl, Rochdale, West Bromwich and Winchester.

Shit shop, shit staff with shit stock - why are people surprised about this?

If you live in one of those towns, you know that you and your neighbours are chavvy enough to allow them to be profitable in your area.

I have a JJB £20 voucher, can i still use it in the above stores? Let me know Kev
  • Consumer E.
@Kevan Sproston Give them a fucking call. Let me know how it turns out.

Kevan, Your gift voucher is unlikely to be valid if it was purchased prior to 3rd October. Anything pre the administration won't be valid. You need to contact KPMG. If it's not valid, you can apply to KPMG to be registered as an unsecured creditor. The administration of them has been on the cards for at least the last few years. Personally, unless it's John Lewis or one of the supermarkets, I'd avoid gift vouchers. As for JJB being chavvy. Don't be so stupid, they were for real sports people. The chavs shop at Sport's Direct who seem to be thriving.
