Deathwatch: Internacionale heading for administration

25 June 2013

retail deathwatch Shop rents are due again and some retailers are going to find that they can’t afford them this quarter. Among them is Internacionale, which has filed an intention to appoint adminstrators.

The chain has 150 stores but is on the brink of a whole heap of trouble thanks to the Current Economic Climate, with top administrator Deloitte on the brink of coming in and raking in a load of coin for itself while smashing up the chain and flogging the best bits.

Also on the Deathwatch radar is Modelzone, which has 50 stores and is turning to Ernst& Young to help make the best out of what is left of it. It follows on from the administration of furniture retailer Dwell, which we’ve never heard of.

Internacionale won't be missed, but Modelzone was great fun.

Maybe Dwell is just a northern thing? Some nice stores up here.

Dwell has some nice stuff but massively overpriced, i'm not surprised it's struggling.

Internacionale? i'd never heard of them. Having a quick look at their website shows a web impression similar to how Republic looked, who have now being taken over by USC. Acquisitions are now the order of the day. Businesses never really die, they transform.

I've heard of Dwell. The store at trafford centre was huge, and slightly more interesting than other funiture+junk style shops. A shame, but agree with the Grammar Nazi... massively overpriced.

Lots of shops close all the time. Look at the turnover of new businesses as well. If they're not selling what people want why shouldn't they close down?

There is a Dwell in Brent Cross retail park just outside of Brent Cross London. Some of the items look satanic. Goats and skulls on stuff. No thanks. Mind you, a goat with a cheap chav parka from Internationale and a crap tatty blonde wig might look amusing. Homesense is excellent near Dwell for unusual decadent one off home things.

Dwell do some nice things and have survived the administration process albeit with a much smaller store base. Modelzone, over expanded and expensive leases are the problem. They should survive in some form. Internaccionale, do cheap equivalent to New Look, Primark clothing and Peacock but not very popular. They may or may not survive. The main issue isn't rents any more it's national government rates based on pre recession pre credit crunch UK Economy of 2008.

Hello, Neat post. There's a problem together with your site in web explorer, could test this? IE still is the market chief and a large portion of other folks will leave out your magnificent writing because of this problem.
