Deathwatch: Ethel Austin spin-off Life & Style heading for the scrapheap
It rose from the ashes of Ethel Austin but after just over a year of trading, Life & Style is itself on the brink of collapse. The company had 91 former Ethel Austin stores around the land at one point but has filed an intention appoint administrators next week.
Life & Style was set up by Elaine McPherson, who had previously rescued Ethel Austin from administration in 2008. She was joined by major shareholder Suresh Ruia, who is believed to have invested £10 million in the business and its expansion plans. It is as yet unknown what will become of the stores or their staff.
What have we learned from this? That humans are weak.
