Deathwatch: 88 La Senza stores closing down
Following on from the company going into administration a few days ago, it has been revealed that 88 branches of La Senza are due to close, with the full list of locations posted on the store finder section of their website.
The company has 146 stores and 18 concessions across the UK, so a cut of 88 represents a major scale-back of the company. It has been suggested that the US-based parent company of the same name will cherry-pick profitable stores from the administrator – if this is the case, then the fact that over half of La Senza stores were loss-making means that the end of the line was inevitable.
Meanwhile, administrators in control of Barratts have announced 1,610 job losses throughout the company’s concessions within other stores, after concluding that the concessions will not be saleable. They are continuing to find a buyer for the other 173 standalone stores.
If you’re keen to trade in the potential misery of others, bookies Stan James are currently accepting bets on various ailing companies and their chances of plunging into administration in 2012. Odds are available on HMV, Thomas Cook, Clinton Cards, JJB, Comet and Argos going tits up over the next twelve months in the ‘financial specials’ section of their website.
