Cheap Playstation 3s to hit the shelves soon?

27 June 2011

Playstation ButtonsSony have been having a tough time of it lately, getting hacked by rapscallions and with shipments of consoles struggling to deal with the awful, awful, tsunami that hit Japan.

And so, in a bid to get things back on track, we could all be treated with cheap Playstation 3 consoles.

It is widely expected that the PS3 will drop in price in August. For a console that is currently being sold around the £250 mark, it appears that retails are willing to sell at £179.99, which is just great. The knock-on with all this is that, in an attempt to be the number one console, Nintendo and Microsoft will also have to look at chipping away at the RRP.

Even better is that there could be further price-drops as we make our way toward Christmas as console manufacturers attempt to inject some life back into a market that has been suffering as a whole.

Of course, the cheapest console on the market current is the Nintendo Wii which has been going for as little as £99 in some places. Some retailers are suggesting that there could be a brief drop to £79.99 soon too.

Cheap consoles for all then! Hurray! We'll never need to go outside ever again!

The next console I pay for will be the Xbox 1080

Why would anyone want a PS3 over 360 anyway? Theres only a handful of exclusives which aren't even very good like 90 year old solid snake and a GT4.

Upon reading this possible drop to £170, I called Sony again to report that my PS3 original GB doesn't work (I reported it first when it broke February last year) and they still want £145 to fix it with a three month warranty... Strange for about £30 more I could get a brand spanking new one with a huge upgrade to storage size, acoustic performance, thermal performance etc. Ah Sony, you let me down more and more.

Sgt Monkey, you'll probably want to try again in August - the price drop hasn't happened yet. That's if it even does happen.

@ PokeHerPete The future cost of gaming and production will mean fewer and fewer exclusives for all consoles, so to be honest it doesn't really matter. I prefer the PS3 over an Xbox for various reasons, but having exclusives was never a reason to won a console when I owned an Xbox.

I read an article the other day about the fall in crime across america. It cited consoles being a probable cause - kids are stuck indoors, getting fat, sitting on their behinds playing PSBox instead of mugging old ladies or being chased down the street by cops. More consoles = lower crime! Brill.

I've been surfing on-line greater than three hours lately, but I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is beautiful worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all site owners and bloggers made just right content as you did, the net will likely be a lot more useful than ever before.
