Breaking news attack - Asda take over Netto
Asda... or Wal-Mart... or whatever you want to call them, have said today that they're about to take over the UK wing of discount supermarket Netto.
This move will add another 193 stores to the already sprawling mass of Asdas.
The Wal-Mart group have agreed a £778 million deal to buy the stores, which will see the Netto stores converted to the Asda brand by the summer of 2011. That means the weird tailless Scotty dog thing will be put down that adorns the Netto stores.
The group said it hopes to complete the takeover later this summer, subject to regulatory approval.
Will Asda's prices be as low as Netto's? Probably not. Time to start stocking up on tiny beers and tinned cabbages or whatever it is they sell.
