American Apparel put merkins on their mannequins
While bikini waxing and vajazzles may be de rigeur, American Apparel has come out in support of the full bush in time for Valentine’s Day, by displaying mannequins with pubic hair.
The store in New York unveiled their fluffy models yesterday, all wearing highly unflattering transparent mesh knickers with lustrous pubes as thick as Brian Blessed’s beard.
District Visual Manager Dee Myles said that the mannequins were intended 'bring rawness and newness to a holiday thought of as a romantic Hallmark holiday. . . by exploiting the lust of Valentine's Day.'
She also said that she wanted the windows to 'spark up curiosity and conversation about what we deem beautiful and sexy.'
BLAH BLAH BLAH. (What she actually means is: 'if we put muffs in the window, people will start talking about them on Twitter.')
Talking of which, over on social networks, reactions ranged from ‘a bit pervy’ to ‘LOVE IT’.
Hmm, I THINK we’re meant to think that it’s a triumph for feminism, but if anyone has ever read up on the antics of American Apparel boss Dov Charney, (who likes his models to look underage, unplucked and with scared/helpless expressions), they might take a slightly different view...
