KFC - with added poo bacteria in their ice
KFC have launched an inquiry, after it was discovered that their ice has bacteria from faeces on it. That's an extra no-one really wants.
This was rumbled by the folks at BBC One show, Rip Off Britain, after they snooped around the KFC branch in Martineau Place, Birmingham. The chicken is probably fine though, as there's not much that can survive an incineration in oil.
Either way, Dr Margarita Gomez Escalada ran some tests, and told the show: "We found high levels of bacteria in the ice."
"The presence of faecal coliform suggests that there's faecal contamination either on the water that made the ice, or the ice itself, and so it increases the risk of getting sick from consuming this ice."
So what have KFC got to say about all this? In a statement, they said that they are "extremely disappointed" by these findings and had “immediately launched an investigation".
KFC will also be doing "a retraining programme with all team members on our standards for touch point cleaning and procedures", and that they take "food safety and hygiene extremely seriously".
The BBC show was looking into food hygiene at all the major fast food joints in the UK, and for the most part, they only found innocuous levels of bacteria. So unless you're in a particular branch in Birmingham, you'll be fine.
Besides, if you can stomach greasy chicken, you can probably digest any bacteria that comes your way without breaking your stride.
