Vintage video games, playable online!

joystick Internet emulators of old consoles are nothing new. For a while now, you've been able to play old SNES, ZX Spectrum and Master System games for free on your computer.

However, while next gen consoles are pushing ahead, the thirst for old games continues and there's now a treasure trove of more obscure systems to get stuck into over at the Internet Archive.

From the same folks who brought us The Wayback Machine (a site that allowed us to peer back at Geocities and Tripod pages from the 90s), they've created a virtual living room where you can play games that are ugly, fiddly and obviously, brilliant.

Thus far, you can kill hours playing the following game systems:

Atari 2600
Atari 7800 ProSystem
Magnavox Odyssey

They have provided manuals and directions for gameplay on most titles, but have yet to add the sound to the games. No matter though because, thanks to this being browser-based, you can skive at work or sit a teenager down and say "this is the brilliant crap we had to put up with when I wurranipper."

To play, visit ConsoleLivingRoom.
