Sony Playstation 3 Slim 320GB for £197.99! But there's a catch...

There's a magma-hot deal spewing all over Hot UK Deals right now, the sort that'll burn your face clean off your head if you stare at it too long. Zavvi's eBay store is selling a Sony Playstation 3 Slim 320GB for £219.99 - but if you use the voucher code C2ZAVV9 there's an additional 10 per cent off, lowering the price to just £197.99.

There are, however, a couple of issues to watch out for. The first is that the discount is as a result of paying by PayPal - according to HUKD forum members, the charge is for full price, but PayPal pay the discount and you pay the remainder.

The other issue is more concerning; the consoles have seemingly been shipped in from mainland Europe and Zavvi are breaking the security seals to swap the European power supplies for their UK equivalent. So not only have the boxes been opened prior to them being delivered, but there seems to be a lot of confusion as to whether Sony will honour the warranty.

The bottom line is you can bag one a PS3 Slim for one of the cheapest prices around, but you may be in trouble if something goes wrong.

I guess if you want to keep the box sealed for 50+ years and hope that it become collectable, this is a bit of a downer. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with an opened box bargain for good reason. P.s don't send back the power supply when something goes wrong with the console.

Wouldn't Zavvi have to honour a12 month guarantee anyway, as they are the people that sold it to you?

I had a German 360 at launch because they were impossible to buy in the UK then and MS had no issues with fixing it for free when it got the RROD, it is the same region after all. Saying that, as companies go, Microsoft are good whereas Sony are shit and I wouldn't personally put anything past them.

Is this likely to be any better than my zx spectrum, or should I wait a bit longer to upgrade?

Zavvi is part of the Hut Group, whose eBay outlet apparently has quite a long and distinguished history of selling bootleg clothing, as was exposed on HUKD recenly. Reading this sort of thing about their PS3 sales doesn't really surprise me much.

Dont see an issue with that, no idea why they just dont ship all with euro plugs then you can just have a 3 pin adapter (the one where the 2 pin fits inside the plug). thankfully ps3 unlikely to break down in first 12 months if at all.
  • Spark
You cannot ship them with adaptors because that relies on the buyers having common sense and that's a pretty fucking risky assumption to make in this country these days.
  • kv
or because it's the law Sparks that all electricals sold in the UK have to have a UK plug

Sony's game consoles and anything about it is crap. But the TV branch of them is awesome I have to admit.
