Sonic gets new Mega Drive for birthday

Retro-gaming is a decent business, as people relive their glory years on old consoles.

Nintendo are offering a mini-NES which looks like fun, and now, to celebrate Sonic the Hedgehog's 25th birthday, Sega is going to put out a special Mega Drive.

This is from British company, Funstock Retro, who announced the throwback console, and for your money (£49), you get "a 2 player home console (with original cartridge slot) and a handheld console (with SD card slot) - both PACKED with 80 (yes, eighty!) built-in games including the likes of: Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2, Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3, Golden Axe 1, 2 and 3, Altered Beast, Alex Kidd, Columns and many, many more!"

Of course, if you've got a PS3 or Xbox 360 still, you could just buy the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection (or Genesis if you're not from the UK), but you might want the fun of a new dinky console.

One great thing about this reboot, is that you can play your old Mega Drive cartridges by popping them in the console's slot - yes, those old games you have kept for no reason will still work!

For the modern thinker, the handheld version has the SD card slot which will allow you to play .BIN and .SMD files, which you can get off the internet.

Anyway, if you're thinking that this sounds exactly like the kind of thing you'd like to treat yourself, or someone else with, click here and have a look.

Now, who do we talk to about getting someone to do a modern GTA-esque remake of Road Rash?
