Nintendo joypads for your phone?
Nintendo have been falling by the wayside in the console world, losing huge amounts of ground to Sony and Microsoft, with their PlayStations and Xboxes respectively.
However, Nintendo have been getting busy with the apps, giving the world Miitomo, Fire Emblem, and Animal Crossing.
And it looks like they're not stopping the momentum, as they've opened up to the possibility of an action game which would see the selling of controllers that you attach to your smartphone.
Very wise move.
When asked if Nintendo have plans to launch a physical controller, Shinya Takahashi of Nintendo's Entertainment Planning and Development Division, said:
"Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves. On the other hand, I believe Nintendo's way of thinking is to look at whether action games are really not impossible (without a physical controller for smart device applications) to create and how we can make it happen to create such a game. I think we will make applications, and not just action games, in consideration of what best embodies "Nintendo-like" applications, including applications for everyone from children to seniors."
The news that Nintendo 'may' do something isn't concrete enough for our liking, but if they start making controllers that you can use with iOS and Android, they stand to make a lot of gamers very happy, open up a new market, and of course, make themselves a pretty penny in the process.
Basically, the idea of playing Mario Kart on a phone, with an attached SNES joypad makes us very happy indeed.
Get on it, Nintendo.
