Dixons and Amazon flogging Nintendo 3DS for £187

18 March 2011

nintendo-3dsLet the Nintendo 3DS price war begin!

Retailers stocking the 3D handheld are all trying to undercut each other and the lowest price currently stands at £187 with Dixons selling it for that much after Morrisons kicked off the price cut battle.

Dixons require you to pay a £10 deposit up-front and the balance before the launch when you receive a phone call, which all sounds deligtfully clandestine.

More interesting is that the Dixons pre-order suggests that their price could actually end up being lower than the £187 advertised.

Amazon.co.uk are touting a similar deal, although with them, you'll have to pay the £187 up-front. Again though, you could end up paying less: "If the Amazon.co.uk price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you'll be charged the lowest price".

The 3DS launches on 25th March and reports suggest that the 3DS has broken all UK pre-order console records, shifting 100,000 units already. Amazon are saying that the Nintendo device has beaten the PS3's pre-order sales by 20 per cent and the Wii by 56 per cent.

    This is way over priced.

Oh stfu Burns. Just don't get it if you don't like it.

I think £187 is a bit too much too. I can't say I'm a fan of the design either. I think I will wait for the inevitable Nintendo 3DS Lite.

I wonder how of those preorders are from people who have tried one? I know Nintendo had those 3DS tours but I wasn't that keen to track down an event, and there's no way I'm buying one without seeing the 3D effect myself.

@Sawyer - you can switch the 3D off if you don't like it, or turn it up or down at will, depending on how quickly you want to spank your way through your battery life.

@Mark C: You misunderstood me (probably due to a few typos in my post). I'm saying that in my travels to various shops doing the pre-orders, I haven't seen a single 3DS available to try, nor do I know anyone who's seen one in the flesh. I'm therefore surprised to see so many pre-orders, because personally I wouldn't want to buy a 3DS without seeing the main selling point (the 3D) live in action myself.

@Sawyer: I played on one in Game two weeks ago so there are some out there.

Umm.... So I preordered from Amazon when it was £197. Wil I get charged the lower amount? Coz it's still showing as £197 in my order history.
