Breaking news: Apple iPad UK launch - Saturday 24th April?
In the last hour, Bitterwallet has heard from two separate sources that the Apple iPad will be available to UK customers from Saturday 24th April. One source is an individual claiming to be an Apple employee who explicitly claims the date is correct; the other has been told by an employee that staff working in Apple's UK stores are not allowed time off on 24th April, and extra staff have been asked to work in-store. The working restrictions for that date coincide with an earlier snippet of news from UberGizmo.
There has been no official word from Apple yet; their website still states the iPad will launch in the UK in "late April". However, if Apple wants to mirror its US activity and launch the product on a Saturday, then the 24th is perhaps the only viable option; the following Saturday is 1st May. Apple could plan a weekday launch, which would mean less of a bang and shorter queues at the tills.
If Apple wants a healthy number of pre-orders before launch, then expect an announcement on date and pricing this week.
