Which! name the Top 5 cheapest energy tariffs

13 December 2013

It’s tempting to take your bed with a large bottle of whisky at the mere mention of energy prices, but worry no more, because Which! have compiled a list of the top 5 cheapest energy tariffs for your delectation. And there’s not one of the Big Six companies on it. It seems that the smaller the company, the cheaper the deal.

Which! based their survey on the energy use of the average user according to Ofgem – that’s 3,300kWh of electricity and 16,500kWh of gas, fact fans. And here are the winners.

Spark Energy Spark Advance 2 - £1,116.41
Co-Operative Energy Fixed Price to 31 March 2015 - £1,167.89
Ovo Energy New Energy Fixed and Ovo Just Reward - £1,175.38
First Utility iSave Fixed v12 June 2015 - £1,1178.47
Green Start Energy No Worries Fixed 24 Month (online) - £1,191.01

Which! also had a look at customer service and found that, unsurprisingly NPower came bottom with 39%, while small company Good Energy took the lead with 85%. The best of the biggies was SSE, but they still only came in 9th place.

So it seems that the best way to shrink your bills is to go with a teeny weeny energy company instead of one of the evil behemoths. Just you wait - next we'll be buying artisan energy from some tosser in an antique camper van.
