Argos delete customers' Christmas shopping after IT cock-up

argos logo While Argos are courting their free same-day delivery service, they've had an IT glitch that has 'deleted' thousands of customers' shopping. Argos' systems went down for most of the weekend, which meant payments went missing and deliveries were left unfulfilled.

As this is the time of the year when people are doing their Christmas shopping, this is a massive mess which will no doubt embarrass Argos, and infuriate shoppers. Some customers noted that bank payments had been made, but Argos staff said that orders had not been made.

Of course, Argos' customer service phonelines were jammed, with people wanting know what was going on. When they couldn't get through to Argos, they took it to social media to complain. Not a great way to start your same day delivery scheme, eh?

One lady wrote on Argos' Facebook page: "They take my £180 then the site crashes and they have no record of my order, even though I have an authorisation code from my bank which proves you took the money. This is the worst customer service I have experienced in my life."

An Argos spokesman said: "We are extremely sorry for the temporary service issues our customers were experiencing on our website this afternoon. We have identified and fixed the issue and our site is now up and running. We apologise to any customer who tried to contact us unsuccessfully and we are working to respond to all enquiries as soon as we can. We apologise if any customer experienced problems with a home delivery and will be in contact to resolve this."

Mercifully, this isn't a hack and is just a system error, but that will be little consolation to anyone who spent half the weekend stuck in phone queues, and have had money taken out of their account, but no products to show for it.

    I am extremely unhappy made my order then didnt get it spent however long on telephone with no answer. Extremely poor ARGOS These are the products i ordered 424/5373 349/5502 414/1934

    Did not have money taken thankfully, but had ordered three items on "fast track" to be told two items ready now one item ready after 4.oopm (hours later) no way was I going twice so I went when I got the e-mail to say last item was ready, it was chaos in the shop queues nearly out of the shop I joined the normal one as I had not paid and "fast track" was huge ! waited over thirty minutes , so called "fast track" still not moving !

    Put 3 orders in over the weekend. Money has come out but no orders received. When I called customer service they told me they had no record of my orderds and told me to contact my bank to see if the payment had come off. No confirmation email either. Waiting to see if any orders are received today as advised.

    This is an appalling way to treat customers. Stuck trying to get through on a automated system with no idea how long the wait. Got through eventually on Friday the 6th and explained and told would be contacted in 48 hours. Now Monday the 9th and nothing. If this their idea of customer service then they have a lot to learn. So it will now be money back and shop elsewhere.Never again

    If you have the order confirmation number and a date by which to pick it up then email the CEO of ARGOS if their in box is full of complaints they will get the message. I recently used their fast track and it was anything but fast over 15 minutes to pick up an order, but you could just see this thing happening with ARGOS or some other high street chain.

    Put loads of items in my basket yesterday all for my daughter 2nd birthday next week. Ready to go through to payment and the site goes into error. Now they don't have the items in stock. Not good enough. Awful service

    I had bought stuff online to be delivered and once delivered my items were dirty! So rang and complained for them to refund me £5 pound but to noticed they had took another £43 out of my account which hasnt yet to be refunded and cant get thur to customer service! Will not be ordering online agen!

    Had my shopping basket emptied 3 times over the weekend then I had to contact Paypal to see if money had gone out, finally successfully placed a fast track order to be collected in part Saturday. The items were not in stock Saturday then I went back today to find after an hour at the desk that 2 of the 3 items were in stock. I have to go back tomorrow to see if the third item has arrived yet. Completely ruined my weekend

    What a shambles after taking hours selecting my Christmas presents my order went through and then got an "oops " after taking my money.it did this several times I'm well angry and have to keep the checking my bank as its possible they have taken the money a few times as well.will be thinking hard if I'm going online to "shop" again

    I placed an order for store collection on Thursday night. When my order was processed a messaged came saying Thank you! Sorry but we could not confirm this order. The money has gone from my account but no order number. I phoned Argos and was told there was no record of my order and this sometimes happens the money is taken but will go back on my card in 5 days! Not impressed as i had to fork out the amount again but i went in store this time.

    I placed an order with a delivery date of 8 weeks time. When that date arrived on Friday I waited for my order to arrive between 6-9pm but it never came. After being on hold for over four hours (collectively) I went in store to complain. They spoke to head office and advised my order hadn't been delivered because "all the delivery drivers have used their delivery hours"

    I am extremely unhappy as I had 3 items that said wher in stock for home delivery and then went to purchase and not available think it is a false advertisement when half the stuff is out of stock joke

    I order 2 items last Tuesday and paid for next day deliver. I'm still waiting on it a week on . One was a birthday which needed on lasr Thursday.

    Tried to order a numerous times from Argos since Friday for the items to be out off stock so choose some others yesterday which were all in stock get to the payment bit and its says error appalling service as all tried to ring them a numerous times since Friday to not be able to get through will not be ordering from there again

    I placed an order online, the money has been taken as confirmed by my bank yesterday... Delivery said within 4 days.. Went online to track it as it has been 4 days and it just says "we are processing your order" not only that but also went in store, there was an issue with the card machines, the lady kept getting me to put my card in but said it wasn't going through.. Checked my statement yesterday and 4 extra payments have gone out... the 4 supposed ones that the lady said hadnt gone through!!! Message them on there facebook page and send an email... the facebook message is read but not replied to and no reply from the email!! So ring up this morning to be on hold for 1 hour, for one of there poxy workers to pick up the phone and put it down!!!

Answer: because the people who shop at this retailer are morons. If you ask them on a public forum for thier order number, name, address and payment card number they will willingly tell you all you need to know to perform all manner of subsequent ID & bank / credit card theft. They will be too busy to notice the ID theft and card abuse cos they will be consumed by playing online bingo whilst watching Mr. Kyle on their Brighthouse TV.

    Yeah, we're a band of heroes on a ship in Greek mythology and we ordered a golden fleece, catalogue no 437/8768 for our boss, Jason, in 1300 bc and it's not even arrived yet. Have I got the right website and who do I see about a refund?

    When my telly wasn't delivered I went back to complain about it. All they said was "This is a Chinese takeaway, you stupid cunt". Argos was on the other side of the road! Naturally I was embarrassed but I can see the funny side now.
