Christmas Retail Price Wars: Let's Hear Your Favourites!

27 November 2008 retailers intensify the Big White Pre-Christmas price war, RRPs at stores are being slashed across the country to generate some early cheer.

According to The Daily Mail, BHS and other Arcadia group shops including Burton and Dorothy Perkins are preparing for reductions, while retailers including  Beales, Selfridges and House of Fraser have already started luring consumers with juicy 40% discounts.

Boots and Superdrug are also reducing perfumes and electrical items by up to 60%.   Argos shoppers still get a £5 gift voucher for a £50 spend, and £10 for every £100 spent.  Online retailers including Amazon and Play have 12 day Christmas Sales and 75% pre-christmas reductions planned respectively, which may be worth a quick peek as soon as they commence.

The planned VAT cuts announced earlier this week is also due to be implemented officially from Monday December 1, but in a sneaky tactic by a few stores including Tesco, ASDA,  Sainsbury's, and John Lewis, have brought this forwards by 3 days to move ahead of the competition.  This however should be good news for most consumers wanting to knock off that little bit extra off their shopping bills from tomorrow.  Tesco is also slashing 50% on up to 1,000 products, so it may be worth popping your head around to the local store this weekend to hunt for a good bargain.
