Bonkers results announcement from Argos and Homebase

In this age of austerity, you’d think there’d be a reduction in flashy gimmickry by companies, as we all tighten our belts, cut waste and are generally seen to be making every last penny count.

Not so with the Home Retail Group, parents of Argos and Homebase, who have just announced their financial results for the previous year. Instead of presenting an assembled gang of financial journalists with some sheets of paper in a buff-coloured folder, they employed a team of ‘creatives’ to come up with something a little bit different.

Very different as it turned out. They built a 2,218-strong wall of boxes then got some poor sods to position blue and white boxes in the wall, creating a stop-motion animation that helps to highlight the group’s performance over the past twelve months. Must have been a good year then…

Thankfully, we’re not going to test you on it later – as we expect you’ll do, we just skimmed through it to try and figure out how impressed we were. The answer – not all that much really.

Someone tell me why they are all wearing hi-vis jackets? What it is with hi-vis jackets? Does it give people a superiority complex?

My fucking god that was boring. Got half way through...
  • Sarah
@Rich - Good work! I had to skim through and then give up....possibly 10 seconds of mind numb? I wonder why they thought it was a good idea to try and attract people with this?

You can tell these are all highly paid marketing toss pots who thought i know we better justify our salaries by looking like we're doing something remotely cool!! Which it isn't!! Far from it actually! These type of videos are aimed at the investors and shareholders rather than joe public though and most of them are complete tools so they'll prob think its cool!! Wankers!

re: bored if you work in a warehouse with vehicles moving around you HAVE to wear a hi viz or no compo if you are run over.

I hopped to the middle, and managed 5 seconds, then hopped some more, nope, not interesting.

I didn't think I'd like it. Thought it would be wasteful and unnecessary. But I liked it. It might not be entirely original, but it is clever. You cynical lot.

Ever tried to juggle 6 rolls of wallpaper from Homebase to home because they can't even manage to make sure they have the correct bags available? Looks like they have plenty of boxes though.
