Bonkers results announcement from Argos and Homebase
In this age of austerity, you’d think there’d be a reduction in flashy gimmickry by companies, as we all tighten our belts, cut waste and are generally seen to be making every last penny count.
Not so with the Home Retail Group, parents of Argos and Homebase, who have just announced their financial results for the previous year. Instead of presenting an assembled gang of financial journalists with some sheets of paper in a buff-coloured folder, they employed a team of ‘creatives’ to come up with something a little bit different.
Very different as it turned out. They built a 2,218-strong wall of boxes then got some poor sods to position blue and white boxes in the wall, creating a stop-motion animation that helps to highlight the group’s performance over the past twelve months. Must have been a good year then…
Thankfully, we’re not going to test you on it later – as we expect you’ll do, we just skimmed through it to try and figure out how impressed we were. The answer – not all that much really.
