More packaging disasters, size isn't everything

27 January 2010

Our recent coverage of packaging disasters by online stores has led to such a heightened awareness of the problem, that across the land our avid readers are poised with cameras and taking snaps of items before they're unpacked. Mark is one such avid reader and he picks up the story:

I recently took delivery of a SODIMM laptop memory card from Ebuyer. The memory card is approximately 40mm by 3mm, yet was sent in a box several hundred times bigger:

Bitterwallet - something in this box sounds lonely

Bitterwallet - a box twice the size as something half as big

I couldn’t believe what I had received - this is exactly how it arrived without any other packaging, leaving the chip to just rattle around inside.

So – your runner up of Best Company In Britain 2009 is even worse than Amazon. Perhaps that's why they didn’t win.

pffft as if! someone at ebuyer is either having a giraffe or this is bullshit proof please!
  • Akabusi
Thats exactly what his mum was like, pull the tab, release the flaps and then the 'chip' didnt even touch the sides of the box

Every Ebuyer customer knows that Ebuyer uses a special tape with red letters. None on this one though...

@Akabusi: brilliant -If i get sacked for repeating that one at work, it will be worth it!

Mark has sent the tracking information and invoice as proof of purchase, so unless he's really got nothing better to do with his, then it's genuine.
  • Fella-Tio
@Paul this muct be an ebuyer wind up (IF its genuine) maybe they just wanted to be part of your groundbreaking news
  • stevie

I can believe that, actually - I bought a Philips screwdriver from Screwfix a year or so back (purely to bump my purchase price on a hoover over the fifty quid minimum for free delivery), and it turned up shrink-wrrapped to the bottom of a cardboard box that was about a foot square and seven or eight inches high. There were a few flyers in there as well, but even so, everything did look a bit lonely.
