Bitterwallet Facebook censorship Want to know about Facebooks views on nudity and crushed limbs?Okay, so you’re mental enough to have a Facebook account and still use it. What can you expect to see? Well, for the most part, its stupid pictures of people’s babies or near identical photographs from someone’s dull-looking night out.

However, thanks to a leaked document, Facebook’s guidelines could see you looking at all manner of bizarre things while being prevented from seeing other, completely normal images. Like what? Well, you won’t be seeing anyone breastfeeding because that may have an exposed nipple and we’ll all go to hell if we see those. However, ”deep flesh wounds” and “crushed heads, limbs” are just fine.

Strange, eh?

This information comes from a 13-page manual which contains facts on Facebook’s image and post approval system which has been handed to Gawker from outsourcing company oDesk.

The manual helps oDesk employees police Facebook posts and pictures that have been flagged up via the “report” button. The reason the document was leaked was due to an angry employee of oDesk –  Amine Derkaoui from Morocco – who has said that he was paid $1 per hour to trawl through the reports and determine whether they should be removed from the site or not. He told Gawker: ”It’s humiliating. They are just exploiting the third world.”

A Facebook spokesperson said: “In an effort to quickly and efficiently process the millions of reports we receive every day, we have found it helpful to contract third parties to provide precursory classification of a small proportion of reported content. These contractors are subject to rigorous quality controls and we have implemented several layers of safeguards to protect the data of those using our service. Additionally, no user information beyond the content in question and the source of the report is shared. We have, and will continue, to escalate the most serious reports internally, and all decisions made by contractors are subject to extensive audits.

“We are constantly improving our processes and review our contractors on an ongoing basis. This document provides a snapshot in time of our standards with regards to one of those contractors, for the most up to date information please visit our Community Standards page .”

    Exploiting third world countries?

    In Morocco the annual average family salary is $6000, Lets say they work an average 8 hour shift per day, 5 days a week.

    5 x 8 = $40 per week
    8 x 4 = $160 per month
    160 x 12 = $1920 per year

    considering an average family in Morocco is probably something like 4 grandparents, 2 parents & 8 children living in one house, who will all be working, that equates to approximately $26880 a year!

    I don’t see the exploitation, do you?

    Personally I don’t see what the fuss is about. There’s nothing wrong with crushing your baby and posting it on facebook.

    This is about as ridiculous as Hukd moderators getting all antsy and upset over an avatar of an eye being sliced by a razor blade “because it offended some of the users and is a family orientated site” whilst allowing jiggling, over-exposed tits and other genitalia from other users.

    Fucking hypocrites who make it up as they go along.

    I’m with Zeddy on HUKD Mods. So inconsistent it’s unreal.

    @zeddy

    A few years ago HUKD was a decent site with a sensible level of discussion, nowadays it’s an open air asylum and general hangout for the unemployed and stay at home moms. I just pop in every so often, see what ‘deals’ are about and then go direct without using the pay per click link.

    HUKD is shite frankly, the deals are sometimes good, the posters, voters and moderators are infantile, I notice even headcases like Rizla don’t use it any more. It’s was always fairly poor but it seems to be run by a bunch of teenagers now. Sicknote summed it up pretty well with Open Air Asylum.

    HUKD, kids clicking the cold button as it’s not a game deal. Now I just leech.

  9. Posted by Sicknote February 23, 2012 at 11:27 am

    What finally broke my back was the complete ass-clowns that vote a deal as scorching hot even though there is only 1 item available in the whole country; then you’d get flamed for pointing that fact out.

    @Sicknote

    Do be so harsh, half the unemployed on HUKD are perfecting their comedy routine posting their arbitrary unfunny ‘jokes’ in every thread.

    Give monkeys a button, and they will click it for peanuts. Give an HUKD user a button, and they will click it for no reason. Cretins. I apologise to all monkeys, apart from those on HUKD.

    I don’t get where the unemployed and children get their money from to buy these ‘deals’

  13. Posted by PokeHimPete February 23, 2012 at 1:15 pm

    @Drew, JSA my friend, JSA.

    @Drew Peacock

    Who says anyone is buying anything?

    It costs nothing to leech an internet connection from your neighbour and spend all your job seeking time surfing HUKD & clicking the heat button because someone has posted a deal available to 1 lucky customer in the Outer Hebrides.

    > general hangout for the unemployed and stay at home moms

    Same thing.

    HUKD makes money through affiliate links which keeps BitterWallet going. Why do you think the best paying affiliates deals get made hot so often?
