TomTom Launches FREE Beta Web Route Planner with Traffic Info
By Vince Wong
If you’re an obsessive planner, TomTom’s new online route planner service may be of interest to you. The Online Route Planner from one of the leading GPS navigation system companies is now offering the first of its kind online navigation system, which provides "live" traffic updates, via Tom Tom’s Dynamic HD Traffic system and ‘500 billion historic speed measurements of roads across the world’. The idea is to give more accurate time estimates for your journey vs. the existing time calculators provided by Google Maps, AA, and the RAC.
The HD Traffic service is currently only available in limited European countries like the UK, Germany, France, and Switzerland, but will be available for all to use, whether you have a GPS unit or not.
The system is currently in beta testing, so if you want in, create your TomTom account quick at http://routes.tomtom.com. Let us know how you get on, and what you think of the service.

Nice idea but the more people that use it, the less useful it will become. Everyone will be using that “secret back road” that few previously knew about.
