Remember ‘Punk’? That revolutionary genre of music that put a rocket up the arses of the establishment back in the late 1970s, destroying everything that gone before it and influencing everything that came afterwards or something?
Of course you do, and we all know who the great groups of the period were – The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks. Weirdly, they don’t seem to be featured in this ad for a definitive ‘Punk’ compilation CD, but we’re assuming that their inclusion is a given and that potential buyers would be more intrigued by the likes of Crowded House and INXS in the line-up.
We’re pogoing up and down and gobbing everywhere to the sound of Huey Lewis & The News right now…
If we remember rightly, it was Andy Warhol who said that “in the future, everyone will have their own brand of perfume.” Or something. Looks like he was right as well. Or something. Following the bizarre news that The Sun newspaper has launched its own bottle of watery whiff, we’re disturbed to learn that there’s also a scent in the good name of punk pioneers the Sex Pistols.
We’re still waiting for our bottle to arrive, so we can’t give you an in-depth review. But we’d hope it would smell of 1976, piss, unemptied bins, sweat, more piss, beer and spunk. Or maybe it doesn’t.
The blurb says…
“Resisting tradition, fighting conformity and disregarding aromatic conventions it leaves a fresh, restless bite of lemon, sharpened and intensified by a defiant black pepper. Electrifed by aldehydes? Shot through with heliotrope? Bins and spunk then. God save the Queen – it’s like punk never happened…
