So, Black Friday is finally here and we’re awaiting the queues, people going wild in the aisles, punch-ups over tellies and, of course, people complaining about the very existence of the day when no-one is forcing them to do anything. Of course, having been down the shops, there’s very little action and it’s all a bit of an anti-climax, and we’ve not seen a single assault. Shame.
According to retail consultancy Salmon, internet traffic is good, which invariably explains why the shops aren’t heaving.
- 106% increase in sales compared to Black Friday 2014
- 100% increase in completed orders from Black Friday 2014
- 59% of traffic is coming via desktop devices
- 41% of traffic is coming via mobile devices
The Mirror have got some pictures of how quiet the shops are, compared to last year. Honestly. We’ve been whistling ‘Ghost Town’ all day. Have a look here if you’re interested.
We’ll be updating this post throughout the day with all the best deals, weirdest Black Friday news stories, and all that good stuff. Hope you manage to get a bargain/lick in.
A lot of deals will sell out quickly, be for a limited time only, and all that, so don’t complain if you check one and it isn’t there anymore. That’s the nature of Black Friday. You snooze, you lose.

This Friday is Black Friday and there’s nothing you can do about it (unless you’re planning to do absolutely nothing about it, of course). There’s going to be a lot of fuss made over it, and in part, for good reason – last year, there were some outrageously good bargains to be found.
For those who still aren’t exactly sure what the day means, basically, in the UK, retailers have stolen America’s infamous sales day, which falls the day after Thanksgiving. Or the last Friday of November. A lot of the major shops and supermarkets will be involved, although this year, some have decided to scale back their offerings or spread their deals out.
As ever, we’ll be rounding up the best bargains for you, and pointing you in the direction of those that are offering proper deals, rather than those rubbish ones that offer 4% off some perfume you don’t want.
Where are the best places to find a Black Friday bargain? Well, these shops have already put their markers down, with some of them already selling Black Friday deals right now.
Over the last couple of years, John Lewis and Amazon have been the better outlets for grabbing something on the cheap, however, 2015 will see even more retailers getting in on the action, so we’ll have to wait and see. Amazon, of course, have offers on all day and have become known for their Lightning Deals, which means limited time-windows to buy certain products.
Very.co.uk have also been hot on Black Friday, and Curry’s/PC World are keen on the day too. Concerning the latter, some Bitterwallet readers got some £150 Beats headphones for £40, which isn’t to be sniffed at.
So keep your eyes peeled. You can get loads of bargains without actually going down the shops if you get everything online, presuming you want to avoid a bareknuckle brawl in a supermarket.
However, you don’t have to wait ’til Friday, as some retailers are putting reduced items out in advance, and doing a number of run-up deals in a bid to save them from being swamped on Friday. If you want the advance Black Friday deals, have a look here.

Black Friday is on the way, and for a host of reasons, retailers have started doing their deals now. It seems they don’t want people ugly-brawling over toastie machines in their aisles, so they’re sneaking some out early.
So, if you’re wanting to get in on the bargains (or at least check them out before deciding you don’t want anything on offer), there’s a great list over on HUKD. If you want to look, click these words.

The main bugbear they’ve got, is all that negative publicity, after shoppers in Wembley were filmed brawling over television sets. While customers grabbed bargains, they didn’t stay around to buy groceries, and that’s a problem for Asda.
So this year, it looks like they’ll be focusing on online sales, or spread offers across several days in a bid to stop people going wild in the aisles. However, they won’t be backing away from it completely, as last Black Friday, Asda saw 2m sales, which made it their busiest single trading day. They sold 10,000 tablets within 2 hours of opening their doors.
A source said: “Last year big-ticket items sold at a loss and attempts to ensure safety by forcing shoppers to queue for items meant food sales tanked.”
When 27th November comes around, it looks like Asda will be a very different scenario to last year. Of course, there’s loads of bargains to be found online, and HUKD will have a designated section so you can get stuck in, from the comfort of your phone or computer. Unless you really want to get down the shops for a dust-up with a stranger.
It does look like 2015 will be the biggest of the Black Fridays we’ve had in the UK thus far, and it seems like the shops are really going to push for it, where last year, a number of bigger retailers shied away.
There’s going to be a lot of laptops up for grabs by the sounds of it, so if you’re in the market for one, you’d be wise to wait a couple of weeks. Of course, we’ll be covering it and rounding up the best deals, and pointing you in the direction of the best places to grab a bargain. More on that nearer the time.
