Commercial Break: Spike up your hair – here comes punk!
May 8th, 2012 • 6 CommentsRemember ‘Punk’? That revolutionary genre of music that put a rocket up the arses of the establishment back in the late 1970s, destroying everything that gone before it and influencing everything that came afterwards or something?
Of course you do, and we all know who the great groups of the period were – The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks. Weirdly, they don’t seem to be featured in this ad for a definitive ‘Punk’ compilation CD, but we’re assuming that their inclusion is a given and that potential buyers would be more intrigued by the likes of Crowded House and INXS in the line-up.
We’re pogoing up and down and gobbing everywhere to the sound of Huey Lewis & The News right now…

HotUKDeals Of The Day – Thursday 17th December
December 17th, 2009 • No Comments
It’s all starched shirts, chain smoking and repressed rage at Bitterwallet HQ today, cos we’ve been watching the Blu-ray of seasons 1 & 2 of Mad Men, which we got for just £23.85.
Why not spark one up, grab a Martini, and come with us on a wander through the best parts of HotUKDeals right now…
How would you like an exhaustive collection of the recent history of pop music at your fingertips? Hits by well-loved stars like D:Ream, Curiosity Killed The Cat, Classix Nouveau and The Wombles?
They’re just some of the acts that probably don’t appear on the ‘NOW’ CD compilations going back as far as volume 29. Never mind, there’s a bunch of them available for only £2.93 apiece. Classix Nouveau are currently appearing in Sleeping Beauty at the Guild Hall in Preston.
On the day that government fun prevention officer Lord Fiddlefaddle has told us all to stop drinking so much booze and to stop giving it to our children, here’s a refreshing deal that means you’ll get more for your hard-earned down the pub.
It’s a sale – in a pub! From the first week of January, various beers, wines and spirits will be slashed in… price, along with a few pub meals. For example, Ruddles Best bitter will be just 99p a pint. For those of you who like to stay ‘dry’ every January, we say ‘Why?’
Finally, we’re proud to announce the return of the free Argos voucher offer, back again at a key shopping time – you get a £5 voucher for every £50 you spend and £10 off with every £100 you spend.
It starts tomorrow and runs for three days. Don’t forget to buy something cheap like a roll of sellotape if your purchase falls just short of the qualifying amount. Here’s all of the recent Argos deals as found on HotUKDeals.

Commercial Break: Because you’re NOT actually worthless scum…
May 29th, 2009 • 3 CommentsIf there’s one thing that haunts all of us here at Bitterwallet, it’s a rampaging sense of worthlessness. We shuffle around the BW HQ staring at the floor, plagued by the angry voices in our heads telling us we’re useless, hopeless failures. It’s tough.
But we think we’ve seen a chink of light in the unending cloud of doom that cloaks our shoulders. It’s this – the ‘Cheers To You!’ CD from The Good Cheer Company. There’s eight tracks (yes, that many) of cheering, motivational phrases and applause that Kurt Cobain could probably have done with instead of a bag of junk and a big gun.
It’s so impressive that it’s even been featured on the Ellen DeGeneres show, although that might have seen the host mocking it before snapping it over her knee – we’re just guessing of course.
Argos and WH Smith pile into the online entertainment punch-up
April 6th, 2009 • 12 Comments
Two big high street names have piled into the lucrative online entertainment retail bun fight. Argos and WH Smith have today launched spin-offs from their main sites, and both are offering free delivery.
Argos claim they have savings of up to 80% off 125,000 DVD, Blu-ray and CD titles while WHS also have games, consoles, electronics and computing under their new ‘Entertainment’ umbrella. Smiths are not new to flogging this kind of stuff but this is the first time they’ve offered permanent free home delivery.
It’ll be a tall order for both companies to snaffle a significant portion of the online pie, with or without their free delivery boast. After all, play.com offer the same and Amazon’s delivery is free on all orders over £5 – which, let’s face it is most of them.
Upon first glance, prices on both sites don’t seem to be eye-scorchingly low, but you might find something in there that will tickle your fancy. First impression is that it could be too little too late for both companies when others have already worked hard to establish themselves over the years.
Would YOU switch over from Amazon, play.com or your other regular online entertainment retailer to these ageing Johnny-come-latelys or are you happy with the way things are? Maybe you don’t buy CDs or DVDs and just download them all illegally. Probably best if you keep it to yourself then if you do.
