BWfeature 21 Ryanair sack pilot who slagged them off in documentaryRyanair – the masters of not taking any criticism well – have sacked the long-serving pilot, John Goss, with “immediate effect” and issued legal proceedings against him after he appeared in the Channel 4 documentary which basically said the company was an unsafe crock of dung.

The airline have already sent lawyers after Channel 4′s Dispatches and said in a statement: “We will not allow a Ryanair employee to defame our safety on national television just three weeks after he confirmed in writing to Ryanair that he had no concerns with safety and no reason to make any confidential safety report to either the IAA (Irish Aviation Authority) or Ryanair.”

Ryanair, who refuse to deal with unions, are inevitably aware that Goss is a member of the Ryanair Pilot Group (RPG), the group which acts as a union for workers of the company.

“Ryanair rejected the false and defamatory claims made by the Channel 4 Dispatches programme which wrongly impugn and smear Ryanair’s outstanding 29-year safety record based on nothing more than anonymous hearsay claims made by individuals whose identity was concealed, and/or by representatives of pilot unions of Ryanair’s competitor airlines masquerading as a non-Ryanair Pilot Group,” said the company.

That’ll be a warning to anyone else thinking of speaking out against the company, but will any of this restore trust among customers looking for cheap flights?

What I don’t understand is what right minded person that thought they would die (and take with them a plane load of passengers to their death) every day they went to work would stay in the job? Surely better to stack shelves/sweep roads or do anything else and live.

If there were safety concerns it is down to him to report them.
If he isn’t carrying out his duties correctly, then it is him who is endangering people.
