RIP the KFC Double Down. Or not.

kfc double down 300x195 RIP the KFC Double Down. Or not.

Before...

It was a bold and brave experiment but, like the BBC’s flop soap Eldorado or Terence Trent D’Arby’s second album ‘Neither Fish Nor Flesh’, it is no more.

We speak of course about KFC’s revolutionary Double Down sandwich, which replaced the traditional bun with two pieces of fried chicken, making the whole thing into as close to an actual death sentence as you’ll ever be able to buy over the counter.

But either a lack of sales or a pang of conscience has caused KFC to backpedal and reimagine what the Double Down is all about – the good (or bad) news is that they’ve removed the external chicken pieces and replaced them with boring old bread.

DoubleDownBun 300x288 RIP the KFC Double Down. Or not.

...and after. Shite isn't it?

A Consumerist reader has forwarded an email from KFC which boasts of their eureka moment: “If you thought our sandwich without the bun was a hit, wait until you see what we’re doing with a bun!”

Well, it’s just a sandwich isn’t it? And one that’ll be much cheaper to make, so we’re assuming the price will drop. We’re also assuming that it’ll quietly disappear from the KFC menu altogether later in the year – and it never even made it to the UK…

EDIT: Deep joy – the Double Down is saved! We got it wrong – scroll down to the comment from KFC’s Rick Maynard and you’ll see that the Double Down isn’t going away. There’s no sign that it’s coming to the UK either mind you…

I guess Im glad they ended it altogether instead of toning it down for the fannies in the UK.

Its like in the USA McDonalds have Spicy McChicken on their dollar menu which doesn’t exist on our pound one. Then theres the Burger King Spicy Royale being changed into the Sweet Chilli Royale.

Don’t forget to have a glass of milk with your korma tonight!

@PaulH Actually, you shouldn’t be cycling in the middle of the road, cunt.

“Fannies in the UK” because the typical brit (who DOES like bland food) gets a “sweet chilli” instead of a “spicy” burger? Cry me a river. The merkin palette is even worse than that of a brit. Bland, boring, junks shat on both sides of the atlantic.

I dont think KFC are getting rid of the DoubleDown. There is no official mention that it is going.

I also got that same email, this was just a play on words to promote their new product (basically chicken sandwich with a new style bun!). They do not really sell what we would call a Fillet burger, they have a multitude of alternatives.

Have to bear in mind that KFC menus in the US are VERY different to the UK, they DONT EVEN DO FRIES!!

    DOUBLEDOWN FOREVER!!

P.S Had one whilst in the US a month ago – TWAS GREAT!!!

  9. The Double Down isn’t going away. We’re just adding a new sandwich to our menu — the Doublicious.

It combines a savory boneless chicken filet with a sweet Hawaiian Bread bun for a one-of-a-kind sweet and savory taste.

The Original Recipe Doublicious includes an Original Recipe filet topped with bacon, Monterey Jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce. The Grilled Doublicious is a grilled filet topped with Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce and honey mustard BBQ sauce.

It’s available at KFC U.S. restaurants beginning July 5.

I wouldn’t buy food from any ‘restaurant’, and I use the term loosely (like your bowels if you eat this crap) like that sells food in buckets.

Dammit, I was hoping to test that on my next visit to the US.

They are only forcing it onto the black market. Un-Taxed, illegal double downs will cause more crime and will inevitably lead the punter onto stronger, harder, more addictive chicken burgers.

Its not easy going cold turkey on fried chicken.

Thanks Rick, I’ve been wanting to try a Double Down and now the Doublicious looks great too. Will try both asap.

KFC in the UK no longer tastes as it used to, thought it was me, but in France it tastes amazing and how it used to,

In the UK KFC tastes bland, rubbery, watery and greasy, in France it is crispy, thick coated and full of flavour, gets me ticking seeming though KFC are just starting to open more and more over france,

is KFC uk skipping on the percentage of spices, and in the UK the dips have gone, while in France you get to choose from 9 dips, the menu is also twice the size in France,

KFC UK is crap! they have done something to save costs, even the fillet is doughy and gross now and that was my fav,

THUMBS DOWN UK KFC your a con
