A pretty cool looking new GPS device called “The Mini Coyote” is being threatened to be taken off the market by the government, becasue it alerts drivers to the positioning of handheld police speed cameras.

Exploiting a loophole in the law, the Mini Coyote transmits the location of handheld police speed cameras to a processing centre, which relays the updated information is relayed to all devices in the network.  The device is actually pretty clever, working as part of a network in which users who spot hidden speed cameras will be able to press a button and alert other vehicles within three seconds.

Road safety groups say that the technology undermines the ability of police to enforce the speed limit, and the government intends to outlaw devices that detect radar or laser systems used by the police cameras.  I suppose from a moral standpoint, one should question the whole purpose of having speed cameras there in the first place.
