New Google Maps for Android, now with new features!July 12th, 2013 • 2 Comments
Google have doled out a brand spanking new version of Google Maps for Android with raft of new features which combine geolocation stuff with more real-world info. Now, you’ll get restaurant reviews when you look at a map and you can add your own score too.
There’s a new Explore feature, similar to one that Foursquare has which provides a touch-based way to explore somewhere without typing or speaking, focusing on five categories: eat, shop, drink, sleep, and play.
Another new feature is the chance to shake your phone to send feedback as well as traffic information now including real-time traffic incident details with notifications to re-route you with one tap. Street View has been improved with “business photos,” so that you can follow the street-level map directly into places of interest.
Latitude and check-ins will be removed from older versions of Google Maps.
Another new feature is the removal of “make available offline” unless you type in “okay maps”. Not everyone has 3G or 4G all the time Google FFS!
@russ1222 it’s still there. Just not as obvious.
Go to search, scroll to the bottom and it’s there.
