Multi-channel TV from Sony?January 4th, 2013 • 2 Comments
Sony are apparently in talks with “at least two” massive companies about licensing their TV channels for a proposed new multi-channel project, according to various reports.
It is said that this new service would be “a package of linear channels akin to what pay-TV distributors traditionally provide, only delivered via broadband connection”.
What this means in real terms is that PS3 owners are looking down the barrel of yet more lengthy updates every time they turn their console on.
With that, Sony have been struggling of late, with their stock downgraded to junk status by rating agency Fitch, with Sony chief executive, Kazuo Hirai, getting a lot of flak about the way he’s been running his ship.
Will a multi-channel TV service be the thing to revive the ailing company? It doesn’t seem likely as there’s already a host of long-standing alternatives out there.
Yay! More TV through a console/set-top box/phone/kettle/toaster/jockstrap.
It is not gonna help Sony, they will need a lot more than just TV.
Flex and chill with the herb.
Let’s hope it works better than their Qriocity online service. And for heaven’s sake don’t trust them with your credit card details.
