More dog news – electric shock collars banned in Wales

Britain’s streets could soon be overrun by an army of ill-disciplined barking dogs thanks to crazy new Welsh legislation that may sweep the rest of the nation.
Or at least that’s what we’d be saying if we were the Daily Mail. But we’re not. So instead we’ll just calmly report that Wales has become the first part of the UK to ban the use of electrified pet collars that are used to train unruly cats and dogs, blasting them with a burst of electricity whenever they act the goat.
From midnight last night, anyone in Wales caught using one of the collars faces a fine of up to £20,000 or six months in prison. Presumably it is still legal to use them on consenting humans as part of a warped yankee doodle-related game.
The Electronic Collar Manufacturers’ Association said that the ban was long overdue and that they were looking forward to disbanding and throwing themselves and their members on the unemployment scrapheap.
Of course they didn’t – they said that they feared the ban could lead to an influx of unmanageable pets into dog shelters. Which is probably a bit extreme. It IS still legal to cook dogs isn’t it?
Who the heck tried using them on cats? You can’t teach a cat to do anything it doesn’t want to do, with or without an electric collar. Mind you it must be a good laugh zapping them anyway.
It’s hardly likely the streets of Britain are going to be overrun with dogs from Wales though. The streets of Cardiff maybe… but nobody important lives there anyway.

I’ve checked the Welsh Assembly website and it says this: A ban on the use of collars designed to administer an electric shock to dogs and cats in Wales will come into force tomorrow [Wednesday 24 March] following the approval of the regulations by Assembly Members today [Tuesday 23 March].
I don’t really understand. Are they banning collars designed to administer a shock to cats and dogs for use on any animal, or are they banning them for use only on cats and dogs?
Most importantly to the majority of Welsh voters and all the Welsh non-voters, is it still legal to use them on sheep, especially whilst having sex with them?

They’re letting all the murderer’s, rapists and terrorists out early so they can bang up poor old Gladys who’s trying to stop her dog wiping its arse on her axminster.

They’ve banned collars. Surely now the company just converts them to a harness, and the electric shock piece goes round the chest rather than the neck. This would not fall foul of the new law, since it is not a collar. If they ban them, they they made it a probe, and you shove it up the dogs ars to electrocute them.
