Ford advert features Berlusconi and some tied-up women in the boot of a carMarch 25th, 2013 • 8 Comments
Selling cars is a tricky business. If you want to do something different to an ad with twisty mountain roads or neon cityscapes, what do you do?
Well, if you’re JWT India and Ford, and you want to sell a shipment of FordFigo cars, you create an advert that features a load of scantily-clad women tied up and gagged in the boot of Silvio Berlusconi’s car while he winks at everyone.
The tag line reads: “Leave your worries behind with Figo’s extra-large boot.”
Ford and JWT have both issued an apology and Ford have said that they didn’t approve the ads. Not surprising really as, on closer inspection, the lady in the schoolgirl outfit is crying as well. Classy, just like Sylvio’s bunga bunga parties.
Another ad features Paris Hilton with the Kardashian family being held hostage in the boot of her car. Astonishing.
And now the ad has had more exposure than originally planned for a fraction of the cost. Or it was all originally planned that way by some social media marking guru.
I’d buy one if the women come included!
Actually cancel that, I’d buy several!
I think it’s brilliant!
The only people who might be offended by this are Berlusconi and his family, and who cares about their feelings? He’s caused enough offence to others already.
Everyone else will just laugh and tell others about it, which makes it a good ad.
You might like to read this article from yesterday’s Observer, discussing a problem India is currently wrestling with: a massive clash of East and West cultures, resulting in a whole lot of kidnapping, raping and murdering of Western and Westernised women going on, combined with a culture of victim blaming, and very little expectation of justice.
On the other hand, given your utterly mindless comments, I guess you probably won’t.
@Bassman You might want to put a few minutes more thought into that statement.
