Everybody loves Quorn, according to the makers of Quorn

Rising beef prices and health concerns surrounding meat have meant that Quorn has added a million customers for its weird low-fat myco-protein foodstuff in the past year.

Yes, it seems that meat eaters are turning their backs on delicious carnivorous treats and are embracing the Wonderful World of Quorn (even though it’s derived from fungus pumped with glucose and bound with egg albumen – yum!).

CEO Kevin Brennan is confident that sales of Quorn will continue to rise, predicting that in the next years that meat will fall out of favour due to inflated prices and increasing demand from developing countries.

‘In the UK there are 500 meals a year that have meat in them,’ he said. ‘In the next ten years it will impossible to have that at anything like the prices you have now given the rising demand in Asia and Latin America. There’s not enough land in the planet. I expect beef prices could go up by 50 per cent, it’s going to be dramatic rather than marginal.’

While Mr Quorn WOULD say that, in the wake of the horsemeat debacle, Quorn’s sales grew by 20% and Brennan says that sales continue to rise amongst meat eaters, especially for their low fat ready meals.

And one million new customers can’t be wrong, can they? Even though most of Quorn’s products taste like an old flip flop coated in breadcrumbs?

I use it at work for several veggie/Muslim children, the “beef” doesnt taste too bad, but the “chicken” is not good.

Ironic when you consider it is full of egg protean.

Tastes like ground up erasers. Frigging ‘orrible. And be nice to Lucy, its not her fault we all think she’s shit.

Of course Quorn doesn’t compare to good quality real meat sausages, steak, burgers, etc.

But compared with what passes for ‘meat’ (i.e. anonymous chunks of protein) in many processed foods and ready meals, it compares well and is at least as good, but lower in fat.

I’m happy eating meat less often, but having great quality meat when I do.

What a bunch of losers. Honestly, how great are you? Do you boast to people (I won’t say friends because you don’t have any) about how witty you are on the comments page of a half-arsed consumer blog?

Please, go and jerk off somewhere else.

Beef is nauseating. Tastes like a 100 year old leather satchel in puddles of liquid poo they call gravy. Quorn is less nauseating. It looks like soft tiny pebbles and is great if you make a chilli and rice with a good tomato pesto. However on its own its as bland as a mousy haired glasses wearing ex hippy.

Quorn mince = alright in a spag bol / lasagne / anything else mince can go in when you can’t get decent quality meat (steak mince from a decent source all the way, if not, this is second choice.)

Quorn chicken bits = awful unless marinated to hell and back, then still a weird texture. Better with marinaded tofu.

Quorn sausages = in a sauce or bake where they can soak in the flavour, come third place with first butchers best, second supermarked best and so on.

As a former veggie, I feel that it’s not all bad.. But if you’re offered a good quality well produced actually meat produce. Pick that. If your offered a shit meat product, eat quorn.
