Deathwatch: More Comet stores to close as the retailer ebbs away…

retaildeathwatch Deathwatch: More Comet stores to close as the retailer ebbs away...The gradual dismantling of Comet is continuing with another 125 stores set to close unless the administrators Deloitte receive a firm offer for the business. That figure is in addition to the doomed stores that were announced last week, with the closures set to take place throughout December.

That will leave just 70 of the original 236 stores open, and Deloitte say that those 70 stores will stay open until all remaining stock is sold.

While no names have been disclosed, the administrators have said that they’re in discussions with a small number of parties that are interested in buying the Comet name and what’s left of the stores.

But if nothing happens, it looks as though Comet could be the next big name to disappear from the retail firmament (and it IS a firmament).

Went to a comet store recently and was shocked at how expensive everything was and that no real bargains were to be had. Considering that in a few months I’d have no one to complain to if it broke I left empty handed.

I too was surprised. I wanted a laptop and I saw one for £650 but was more inclined to pay £600, they would not budge, but its the administrators that are dictating offers, so their hands are tied.

    Annoying though, wanted that laptop.

They will be gone before Christmas. They won’t be taken over.
