retaildeathwatch Deathwatch: Allied Carpets could soon be no moreOne of the grand old dames of the retail firmament could be about to shrivel up and die for the final time after filing for administration for the third time. Yes, in case the headline of this story hadn’t given it away, it’s Allied Carpets. Sadly, it’s already a shadow of its former self, consisting of just 20 stores across the land, and it is believed that eight of those have closed recently.

The company began in the 1950s and at one point had 1,000 stores across the land. Perhaps it all started to go wrong when the bloke from Allied Carpets ran off to Kenya with Rose, the lady companion of one of Mulligan and O’Hare…..
