retaildeathwatch Deathwatch: 66 HMV stores to closeIt’s bad news for 930 HMV staff today as they learn that they’ll be losing their jobs, with 66 stores set to close over the next six weeks, in spite of recent rumours that over 100 stores would be axed.

Having said that, there’s no guarantee that the closures will end with the 66 stores that have been announced today.

Here’s the list of stores that will be closing over the next few weeks…

I remember when all this were Our Price…

Some pretty big stores there – Manchester Market Street and Edinburgh Princess Street are pretty big prominent stores. Or at least they were last time I was there.

Blimey, that has to be pretty much a clean sweep of the Edinburgh stores – unless there’s still one in the tatty Cameron Toll shopping centre, I forget.

Still, that’s the flagship store on Princes Street, then the ones in St James Centre (city centre mall), Ocean Terminal (mall on north edge of city), Fort (retail park on east edge), Gyle (mall on west edge of city).

Certainly expected some consolidation, losing the lot is a surprise though.

Seems like they are taking it out on the north!

Glad to see the evil megalomaniacs that run Castlepoint Bournemouth will now have an empty unit. But that’s another story…

    AW FUCK..!!

The Moorgate store is going to close; where the fuck am I going to go know to get a list of movies and music to buy from Amazon now…?

Huh, wonder why the comment I posted is ‘awaiting moderation’, the naughtiest words in it are blimey and tatty!

So they’re taking down all the shops in Edinburgh are they? Interestingly though the list doesn’t include the Fopp Store on Rose Street…

  9. Posted by Bazinga February 7, 2013 at 1:22 pm

Don’t shut down all the Edinburgh ones, just turn them into off licences.

The one thing I couldn’t remember, was, is there still an HMV in Cameron Toll, more or less opposite the Sainsbury’s?

Certainly one heck of a cull of the Edinburgh stores though.

  11. Posted by Euan February 7, 2013 at 1:54 pm

    wtf, awaiting moderation again?

  12. Posted by chewbacca February 7, 2013 at 3:03 pm

You don’t “wait” for moderation on here, your comments just stay on your version of the page only, in a sort of BW wank-limbo.

You’d think the site owners would do something about this, although, judging by their piss-poor “standards”, perhaps that’s simply beyond them…

OT: The vast majority of locations above seem to be those that would command hefty rental fees. Perhaps the strategy is to get the bills down regardless of footfall?

This will end well, mark my words. W-e-l-l.

    or not

If you’re using words like “blimey and tatty”, you’re clearly in breach of the language etiquette here.

Try a liberal sprinlking of cunts, fucks and/or wankers. That should do the trick.

Certainly the Scottish store are all leased properties, more than likely costing a fortune to rent too.

  15. Posted by Euan February 7, 2013 at 4:42 pm

So you mean to say I can post titty shitbiscuits without the post being marked for moderation?

  16. Posted by Sam February 7, 2013 at 5:36 pm

so left for northern ireland I see basically all those are getting closed down

  17. Posted by Jerec February 7, 2013 at 7:07 pm

At least one things for certain, you will be able to get some bargains at HMV for once, unless the staff go batshit crazy and start burning down stores.

    Now that would be awesome.

  18. Posted by Dr Zoidberg February 7, 2013 at 7:37 pm

And where are those titty shitbiscuits that you speak of, Euan?

HMV TO CLOSE STORES – Shock!!!! There’s no news like old news.

  20. Posted by Euan February 8, 2013 at 10:22 am

Can’t help but wonder whether closing all five Edinburgh stores is a mistake.

I mean, isn’t it possible that just closing four would result in the remaining one getting rather more business?

  21. Posted by Oz February 8, 2013 at 4:31 pm

They could well be closing all those on the shortest remaining leases, much cheaper to exit.

  22. Posted by chewbacca February 10, 2013 at 12:52 am

Fuck Edinburgh, it’s full of fucking English wankers. The Scots leave them to it, as they know it’s so utter fuckingly cockshit they’d rather live in.. Ayr. Or some shit.

Salt ‘n’ sauce? Fuck off. Edinburgh wanksauce more like. Cunts.

Why does Wales seem to have escaped.

  24. Posted by Jamie February 13, 2013 at 5:37 pm

5 in Edinburgh closing. To be fair, who would want to have a store in shitty Princes Street anyway. Used to be beautiful over a decade ago. Now it’s a shit hole. All Edinburgh city planners should be locked up.
