Crazy Russian phone has two screens, and you can get one for Christmas!November 15th, 2013 • 3 Comments
While most tech companies are looking at curved screens and wearable technology, the Russians have decided to go one better with a mobile that has two screens.
The YotaPhone is available for Christmas too.
There’s a 4.3 inch 720p LCD screen on the front. On the back, there’s another screen, this time a 4.3 inch e-ink screen. It has been available for a while in Russia, but now it is going global.
It seems one screen is for all the usual gubbins you’d do on a phone, while the e-ink screen is there to allow the YotaPhone to double as an e-reader. Away from that, it isn’t a wildly amazing phone, running Android 4.2.2 with a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP camera, 32GB of storage and an 1800mAh battery.
There’s no price on the YotaPhone yet, but in Russia, it goes for 20,000 rubles which is around £381.
In the right hands the e ink screen means you save loads of bettery from just constantly turning on the screen to check time etc. However, many people manage to crack a single phone screen, if theres 2 then theres an awful lot of phone that needs protecting
Samsung offered a similar concept about 10 years ago – i.e. the dual screen idea. Sank without a trace IIRC, but that wasn’t obviously looking to be an eReader.
Anyone that gives a shit about their phone puts it in a case. This is going to need something like one of those trick-wallet things so you can access both sides of the device.
