Commercial Break: Spike up your hair – here comes punk!

May 8th, 2012 6 Comments By Andy Dawson

Remember ‘Punk’? That revolutionary genre of music that put a rocket up the arses of the establishment back in the late 1970s, destroying everything that gone before it and influencing everything that came afterwards or something?

Of course you do, and we all know who the great groups of the period were – The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks. Weirdly, they don’t seem to be featured in this ad for a definitive ‘Punk’ compilation CD, but we’re assuming that their inclusion is a given and that potential buyers would be more intrigued by the likes of Crowded House and INXS in the line-up.

We’re pogoing up and down and gobbing everywhere to the sound of Huey Lewis & The News right now…

“The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Ramones, The Buzzcocks.”

All FAKE punk bands. The Macc Lads were a true punk band. Racist, abusive, discriminatory, sexist, crude, lude. They are banned from playing anywhere. The Sex Pistols were puffs compared to this lot.

Puff or Poof? What derogative do you use? Discuss?

I’ve been listening to Erasure for years. More spunk than punk.
