Charge devices by touching them together!January 10th, 2013 • 7 Comments
A company, Fulton Innovation, has developed technology that allows next-gen tablets to charge, simply by pressing it against a smartphone or other device. Plugs are not the future it seems, with other developers looking at alternatives, such as phones being charged by the motion of you walking around.
Nokia have also announced that their Lumia 820 and 920 phones will charge by power mats, rather than power cords and Starbucks are teaming up with Duracell Powermat to launch wireless charging devices in coffee shops around Boston.
This new tech is being shown off at the Consumer Electronics Show trade show in Las Vegas.
‘This technology is ready to be added in to the standard today, so it is something we will be proposing to the Wireless Power Consortium for the next generation of products,’ John Schwannecke of Fulton Innovation told ABC News.
this was available years ago, get with the times BW…
Pretty sure the Nexus 4 is compatible with power mat however as said this is something thats been around a couple of years now
Inductive charging? Like the Touchpad & Touchstone?
Or is this something different?
So my smart device has to be left on a mat whilst charging, what’s the benefit over a cable that at least has some portability?
Reading articles on BW is like stepping into a time machine that takes you back to the boring shit you already knew from years back
“Charge devices by touching them together!” – You reckon that’s the line Jimmy Savile used?
