Best foot forward – Best Buy launches UK website

Across the gulf of space the Atlantic, slowly and surely they drew their plans against us. Well, not us, but everyone involved in the sale of practically anything you can’t eat, wear or drive. Best Buy are on their way to tackle the likes of Comet, Currys, John Lewis and PC World; the heavy artillery won’t start firing until next year but they’ve already started lobbing grenades:

The Best Buy UK website was launched this week; there’s nothing much to see, save for some quiet boasting (“although we’re the world’s largest consumer electronics retailer you probably won’t have heard of us”). They’re certainly in full recruitment drive however, with a dedicated job website for potential employees to submit their details through – perfect in case you’re needing a change of employer soon.

So, will BestBuy tackle PCWorld & Comet, or just buy one of them wholesale?

Should be interesting to see how they take on their ‘biggest competitors’ DSGi and Comet. Hope they will bring something new to the market, however with their staff being mainly form DSGi I would strongly doubt it. Lets see

  4. Matt, you’re a fool to take a picture while driving….i went into the back end of another car trying to video my girlfriend giving me a blow job while driving.

I fail to see the excitement about Best Buy. Sure competition is good, but its going to take a while for them to build infrastructure before they are a serious market share competition to DSGi and Kesa. More likely they’ll take JLP share first off, but even that will be short term as JLP customers (’the golden family’) are very brand loyal.

And tbh, they are not to disimilar to Currys and Comet et al anyway. Check there current promo brochure, the deals are fairly basic; they still promote the $50 HDMI lead and $180 tv stand. The software packages are pretty much what you get now also and the games consoles are all at standard prices.

I, for one, am not holding my breath.

i believe the excitement is for DSGI employees to get new jobs. Maybe its not about pricesof products but about job satisfaction, as most people on the frontline in dsgi stores hate their jobs due to unwarranted sales pressure they are put upon following their FIVES shit.

At last it seems like a company with better money behind it may challenge the current dominatrix of dsgi to give decent customer service & treat their staff better. Up yours John Browett & Sheep followers.

If you’ve ever shopped in a best buy, you’d know.

Basically, best buy is to dixons as tesco extra is to a spar. In principle they sell very similar things, but one has every single type of all those things. Or to put it another way, Spar sells bread, in white and brown variety, tesco has an entire aisle of bread. All best buy will offer is much broader choices, wider ranges of product, and better selections, which, as a consumer, is only a good thing. The ones i’ve been to in the states also stock huge ranges of cd’s and dvd’s.

They’ll do well under Carphone’s guidance…Say what you like about Carphone but their rise from nothing to where they are now has been quick.

They are busy building one of these round the corner from me in Hedge End. If their prices are good then it will be worth a look otherwise I will continue to shop online. There is a PC World close to it so they cant be welcoming the competition.

  19. @Ivor

    Thanks mate!

Now they just need to do a Microsoft-style switch out of that Hispanic girl, and replace it with a photo of Palvinder, and they’ll have their political correct quota of local minorities right.

  21. Please send me a picture of “Palvinder”. TIA

Perhaps it’s just me but with everything that has happened in the last two years with the economy I’m more enclined than ever to purchase from an independent electrical retailer like a Euronics store. My local one, Dalzell’s of Markethill looks like it’s about to go online which is nice to see http://www.armaghelectrical.com

Best Buy in my opinion will at least help lower prices in the short term and fill some units in our out of town shopping centres that seem to be falling to the march of Tesco at an alarming speed.

  24. Wonderful. I will try this one to approach my dreamed girl. Thank you.

  25. How can i do this if i’m a poor man :( . My girl is going out with another guyz. Poor me!

  26. Heya i am for the primary time here. I found this board and I to find It really helpful & it helped me out much. I’m hoping to present one thing back and aid others such as you helped me.
